The apartment is located on the ground floor of a medieval building, nestled in the shadow of the Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence, with views overlooking the Lungarno. Previously used as a historic professional office, the property had never undergone renovation and featured a long corridor that provided access to all rooms, creating a narrow, maze-like layout devoid of natural light. The first intervention focused on minimizing the distribution spaces and maximizing natural light penetration into the rooms, transforming this ground-floor office into a bright and welcoming home where light, color, and clean lines take center stage. The result is a sequence of interconnected spaces, each distinguished by a different color palette, all unified by an almost ethereal white resin flooring. Another challenge was to blend this clean, modern, and minimal shell with the client’s existing antique pieces and 1950s furniture. This contrast between a conceptual white shell and vibrant, statement elements creates the guiding theme of the house—a perfect, sunny dialogue between the two. The highlight of this journey is the mezzanine, the former studio transformed into the master bedroom. The jewel of this space is the 1950s study area, featuring a desk with fine baton detailing and a solid wood bookshelf with glass inserts, offering stunning views over the Lungarno, Villa Bardini, and San Miniato al Monte.
