A single pattern defines the new square for Isolotto: a continuous carpet capable of expressing differences as variations on a theme. These are diverse textures that come together to create a single, shared design—where the symbolic value of “us,” all of us together, takes precedence. A flying magic carpet, capable of bringing together distant places and people, becomes the symbolic image of the desire to bridge the gaps that exist today—between opinions, cultural values, ethnicities. For this reason, the central symbol becomes the shared reflection in the canopy’s mirrored underside: being together, reflected as one. The livability of a city today is measured above all by its ability to invite people to move through it—to walk, to cycle, to stop and enjoy its spaces. Walking is the starting point, because a city is more welcoming and hospitable the more it opens itself up to being crossed. With this in mind, the spaces have been imagined as accessible and visible to all. This project explores the idea of the city as a place of encounter, where empty space is seen as an opportunity—a canvas to design relationships between different elements (buildings, people, activities, flows, etc.). It is a way of telling the story of everyday life through a sequence of public, open-air spaces—shared spaces, where each individual can recognize themselves as part of a community, as part of a collective “We.”
